Principal Lawyer

Since graduating from Dalhousie University in 2007, Banke’s practice has focused exclusively on Family Law, with emphasis on Matrimonial Property, Domestic Violence, Child/Spousal Support and Custody cases. Her international background working with families underscores her understanding of the practice of Family Law.

Banke has consistently advocated for her clients, guiding both men and women through difficult divorces and complex family issues. Her swift approach to litigation coupled with her dedication to her clients has enabled her to best achieve her clients’ goals and safeguard their interests.

Brittany Doucet
B.A. (Honours), J.D., Mediator

Brittany graduated from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law in 2014 and was called to the bar in August of 2015. Brittany articled with a well respected firm in Medicine Hat and continued with them as a lawyer, practicing in Medicine Hat and Brooks, until she returned to her hometown of Calgary in the summer of 2016, thereafter, joined Adept Family Lawyers.

Brittany practices in the areas of Family Litigation, Landlord/Tenant Law, Employment Law, and Wills & Estate Law.

In Medicine Hat, Brittany was very involved in the community, volunteering with Medicine Hat Legal Guidance, Medicine Hat Law Day, and the Medicine Hat Symphonic Society. She was also a board member of the Medicine Hat Photography club and a musician in the Medicine Hat Orchestra. Brittany looks forward to serving the Calgary community in the same manner.

During her free time, Brittany enjoys music, photography and cooking.

Nkiru Emodi

Nkiru joined Adept Family Lawyers as an Articling Student in 2016. She was called to the Alberta Bar in 2017. Nkiru practises in all areas of Family Law, Immigration Law, Wills & Estate and Real Estate Transactions. Nkiru makes successful appearances at the Court of Appeal, special hearings at the Court of Queen’s Bench and conducted Trials at the Provincial Court. Nkiru is passionate about obtaining efficient and cost effective solutions for her clients.

Nkiru practised law for over 2 years in another jurisdiction with a focus on Civil Litigation and Family law. She actively volunteers with Pro Bono Law Alberta where she works with clients with various legal issues.

During her internship with Resolution Services, Alberta Justice & Solicitor General, Nkiru was involved in exploring ways of increasing access to justice and alternative dispute resolutions, which are most beneficial to the public.

Nkiru believes in giving the best and most efficient service to her clients and as such is always looking for ways to provide strategic and satisfying legal solutions for her clients’ specific needs.

In her free time, Nkiru enjoys reading and cooking.

Soni Dhaliwal
B.A., J.D.

Soni is a Student-at-Law with Adept Family Lawyers. She assists in all areas of Family Law, Wills & Estates, Immigration Law, and Real Estate Transactions.

Prior to joining Adept Family Lawyers, Soni completed her legal education at the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with Distinction. While at law school, she completed a semester long placement with Community Legal Assistance Services for Saskatoon Inner City, a legal clinic focused on assisting disadvantaged clients and improving access to justice. As such, she has experience in representing clients on matters including family law, immigration, and small claims. This opportunity helped her gain advocacy skills and adopt a client-centered approach.

Soni is fluent in Punjabi. She is also a firm believer in providing clients with consistent service and custom solutions. In her spare time, Soni enjoys reading, volunteering, and spending time with family. Originally from the Okanagan Valley, she now calls Calgary home.

Fiona 2

Fiona Japaul 
B.A., LL.B.

Fiona is a Student-at-Law with Adept Family Lawyers. She assists in all areas of Family Law, Wills & Estates, Immigration Law, and Real Estate Transactions.

Fiona graduated from York University Toronto, with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) before obtaining her LL.B from the University of Leicester, England. During her time at Leicester, Fiona was elected as a Mock Trial Coordinator to organize all internal and external mooting competitions for the Leicester Law Society. She also volunteered her time in assisting to exonerate wrongfully convicted individuals as a legal researcher for the Pro Bono Innocence Network UK.

Fiona has prior legal experience at a family law firm as well as a boutique personal injury firm in Toronto, where she gained extensive knowledge in civil litigation law. Even as a student-at-law, Fiona has prepared Briefs for the Court of Appeal and conducted Trials and Questioning unassisted. She is passionate about helping clients in a cost-effective manner with practical solutions.

Outside of her dedication to law, Fiona enjoys the fine arts, reading, interval training, and travelling. She also enjoys spending time with family, friends and the outdoors with her husband and her dog.

Real Estate Paralegal

Fang joined Adept Family Lawyers as a Paralegal in February of 2015 and as since been an integral member of our team.

Fang specializes in residential & commercial real estate transactions. Her dedication to her job and our clients is second to none. Fang provides a high level of service and attention to details in all of her Real Estate deals. She remains professional while projecting the ability to empathize with clients’ needs on a daily basis. Her easy-going demeanour brings a sense of calm to all situations.

During her free time, Fang enjoys hiking, reading, travelling and spending time with her family

Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant

Lisa De Leon, BSW, RCIC 
Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant  

Lisa began her career as a Registered Social Worker in Canada. From 2002 to 2009 she provided settlement services to new immigrant families who have children with special needs. The settlement services included finding homes, employment, family support to assist in caring for the children with special needs, orientating on behavioral and cultural adjustments, and finding support communities and organizations.

In 2010, Lisa completed the Immigration Practitioner Program at Bow Valley College. In the same period, she partnered and worked as an agent for an immigration consultant. This partnership developed her expertise in handling LMIAs, AEOs, Work Permits and job placements.

In 2011, she received her license as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant. Lisa joined Adept Family Lawyers as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant in June of 2016. Our clients’ full satisfaction is always paramount to Lisa.
